Peculiar issue with slewing was created by rtripa
Hi all,

I'm having a peculiar issue with slewing taking forever on SGP sequences. Here's a typical run:

- SGP starts normally, M-uno slews normally first target starts normally.
- At some point, one of the targets takes forever to slew to. It's not 100% consistent, sometimes it can be the middle one sometimes the last one.
- SGP log doesn't show anything unusual, except for the zillion "Telescope is reporting slewing" messages. Example below:

[[02/17/23 01:24:39.279][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:40.281][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:41.283][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:42.285][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:43.286][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:44.287][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:45.288][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:46.289][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:47.290][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:48.292][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:49.294][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:50.295][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:51.296][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:52.297][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:53.299][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:54.300][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:55.301][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:56.303][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 01:24:57.305][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing

- This process takes many hours, but apparently it reaches target at some point:

[02/17/23 04:30:41.809][DEBUG][Telescope Thread][SQ;CE;] Telescope: Observatory is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 04:30:43.018][DEBUG][Telescope Thread][SQ;CE;] Telescope: Observatory is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 04:30:44.041][DEBUG][Telescope Thread][SQ;CE;] Telescope: Observatory is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 04:30:45.241][DEBUG][Telescope Thread][SQ;CE;] Telescope: Slewing has completed
[02/17/23 04:30:45.241][DEBUG][Telescope Thread][SQ;CE;] Telescope: Settling for 1 seconds
[02/17/23 04:30:46.242][DEBUG][Telescope Thread][SQ;CE;] Telescope: Settling has completed

- It plate solves nicely, but this specific target was at it's time limit by then, so the sequence continued to next target:

[02/17/23 04:36:02.873][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Scope reports it is done with synchronous slew, verifying...
[02/17/23 04:36:02.874][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Observatory is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 04:36:02.874][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 04:36:03.875][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Observatory is reporting slewing
...
[02/17/23 04:37:16.981][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Telescope is reporting slewing
[02/17/23 04:37:17.982][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Slewing has completed
[02/17/23 04:37:17.982][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Settling for 1 seconds
[02/17/23 04:37:18.984][DEBUG][Sequence Thread][SQ;] Telescope: Settling has completed

- And it continues normally.

SGP people say the driver is reporting the slew to SGP, so this isn't anything they can sort. The fact is that this happen every night, and it's getting really frustrating. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Hi Rui

Can you please provide us StarGo Software/Firmware/Driver ASCOM version and SGP version?

In this way we can make some tests.

Best regards

Stefano

Hi Rui We performed a test yesterday night with your same softwares configuration.

We run a 7 objects sequence, after the first GoTo the telescope took a shot, downloaded the picture and slewed to the next target. Then repeated the operation for each target flawlessly.

This test let us think that the issue may be elsewhere, furthermore currently we didn’t receive similar feedback, so let us know your hardware configuration.

Are you working with a PC directly connected to the mount or with a small PC/device remotely connected to a host pc? How are you connected with the StarGo? Via direct USB cable or via WiFi/Bluetooth wireless connection?

Another check that you can perform is to try a simple sequence with another software as, for example N.I.N.A..

In this way we can test the driver with a different system. Let us know so we can give you more suggestions.

Best regards

Stefano
