DEC and RA spikes was created by tcorridan
Hi Stefano,

Thanks for answering. I have a problem with my guiding and I wanted to check the RA Rate and DEC Rate.

The problem is that recently I am experiencing spikes in my RA and DEC that never used to occur (see attachment of my guide logs). I have recently upgraded my StarGo software to 6.5.11, firmware to 6.2.0 and ASCOM driver to 6.8.4.3. I have done new calibration but the spikes persist. Can you please help?

Hi tcorrindan

The link doesn't show the Log File, so please provide us the correct one.

In the meanwhile you can check the Dither settings inside PHD2, sometimes this option enabled may be the reason of the spikes.

Best regards

Stefano

Hi tcorrindan

From what we see on the basis on the log file provided, we saw that the dither was enabled and some spikes could be due to this option.

The other spikes wasn't regular so we don't think may be something connected with the mechanical.

We don't have feedback about spikes behaviour with the 6.2.0 so other spikes could be due to whatever reason (a gust of wind, sudden cloud for example).

Furthermore, the spikes are all within about 1 pixel and the total RMS is 0,38" so we don't think that they could affect significatively the photo session.

Let us know about your future sessions mount behaviour.

Best regards

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

Thanks for the reply.  You are correct.  My images don't seem to be much affected as I am getting nice round stars.  Could the problem be because the seeing conditions are worse than normal?  I actually emailed the Meteorological Office and asked them if I am imagining it or is there more cloud (especially in the upper atmosphere) than normal and they said "yes".  Apparently, it's because of all increase in bush fires around the world for the last couple of years.  What do you think?

Terry.
