Hello,
is it possible to perform a "Sync Home Position" with APT? (until now done with StarGo)
... so one could avoid the need to perform first the "Sync Home Position" with an additional mobil phone or android tab

Hello Peter

The use of the mount without a PC is described in the StarGo User Manual starting from page 63 to page 66.

In the StarGo User Manual we described the example of the SkySafari app but the procedure should be the same with every planetary app.

You should first connect the mobile device with the StarGo board via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, then connect with the app. Soon after the connection perform a sync with a star close the Southern Meridian and near to the Horizon.

In this way the mount will be aligned with the Sky and the pointer will be placed on the Polaris.

Please try in this way and let us know about.

Best regards

Hello Stefano,
maybe a misunderstanding - the steps described all work fine (connection with bluetooth and /or with SkySafari via a mobile device).
My question is concerning ASCOM surrounding: the mount is now connected to a PC and I run Astro Photography Tool controlling camera + focuser + mount. With Astro Photography Tool I can sync the mount to any celestial object.

What does the StarGo board request as "Sync Home Position"?:
Do I need to open first the StarGo Software and
"press the Sync Home Position button to align the mount to the Sky...with the previously established mount home position (CWD position with the counterweight bar down and the telescope pointing North)". .(page 23, 33)
page 41:
The Sync Home Position, i.e., the operation needed to align the mount to the sky is the first to be performed (after polar alignment) to execute correct pointing to celestial objects for visual observation or photography.

or can I just put the mount in home position and sync with astro Photography Tool to northern celestial pole / polaris?

Hello Peter

The Sync Home Position function inform the system that the telescope is aligned and synchronized with the sky, with the telescope pointing to the Celestial Pole, as explained starting from page 41 of the StarGo User Manual.

This operation must be performed before the use of planetary softwares.

Before to perform this operation a good Polar Alignment must be done.

After the Sync Home Position has been done with the StarGo.exe, you can use your preferred planetary software and perform any Sync to Celestial Objects to improve the pointing accuracy.

Best regards.
